Following is a description of all the Wine Classic component events.
DINNER AT HEARST CASTLE: Wednesday, July 10, evening, San Simeon. Only the fifth such event at the Castle in thirty years (the first was our dinner there in 1992), this magical evening is always enhanced by the cuisine of stellar chefs and the wines of some of the finest properties in France and California. A special tour of La Casa Grande and a Champagne reception precede the dinner. Included with purchase of Platinum package only.
BARREL TASTING AND RECEPTION: Thursay, July 11, 3:00-6:30 p.m., The Avila Beach Resort, Avila Beach. An array of wineries will be pouring barrel samples of special unreleased wines, including Classic Cuvees, serious blends by pairs of Central Coast vintners, blended especially for the Wine Classic Auction.
WINERY HOSTED DINNERS: Thursday, July 11, 7:30 p.m. Following the Barrel Tasting, winery dinners are held at a select few wineries and restaurants from Northern San Luis Obispo County to Northern Santa Barbara County. Each winery makes special arrangements with an exceptional chef or caterer to provide the evening's cuisine. Transportation is provided to and from the dinner venues.
METHODE CHAMPENOISE RECEPTION: Friday, July 12, 6:30-7:30 p.m., The Avila Beach Resort. Methode Champenoise sparkling wines will accompany Champagne-compatible hors d'oeuvres, presented to our guests and dignitaries in celebration of the weekend's activities.
VINTAGE DINNER: Friday, July 12, 8:00 p.m., The Avila Beach Resort. Under an expansive, sided and festive tent, five exceptional Central Coast chefs will present a culinary extravaganza of grilled cuisine with inventive sauces to pair with the wines of an array of vintners, many of whom will be in attendance. Wine Classic dignitaries and Honorees will be recognized between courses, and dance music will follow the dinner. Includes Methode Champenoise reception.
RARE & FINE WINE AUCTION: Saturday, July 13, The Avila Beach Resort. Maison Deutz Reception and Auction Lot Preview 11:00 a.m.; Auction 12:00 noon. An eclectic array of over two hundred lots from around the world will be gaveled, as well as comprehensive food and wine luncheons, dinners and excursions. To give you an indication of the scope of auction lots to be presented, the lots in the 1995 Auction are listed and described in the complete 1995 Live Auction Catalog. A contiguous silent auction accompanies the live auction. The auction will end with a festive beach party on the shores of the lagoon, complete with grilled cuisine and live dance music.
CHARDONNAY SYMPOSIUM: Sunday, July 14, 11:00 a.m., The Cliffs at Shell Beach. You may anticipate an exciting panel of vintners who are proficient with the production of this grape variety, so particularly pleasing from the Central Coast. The Cliffs will provide a luncheon compatible with the lovely texture and flavor of fine chardonnay.
GRAND WINETASTING: Sunday, July 14, 1:00 p.m., The Avila Beach Resort. Our sixteenth annual Winetasting features the fine still and sparkling wines of over eighty wineries from through-out the state of California, as well as other notable wine producing regions. An eclectic silent auction of wine concludes at 3:00 p.m. Wine Classic celebrants may continue to taste wine and the foods of a dozen Central Coast restaurants and dance to lively music appropriate to the occasion until 4:00 p.m., the conclusion of the weekend's festivities.
